Renovation of a Private Residence in Silver Spring, MD

Some renovations with minimal to no additional square footage can dramatically transform a home. In this Silver Spring, MD residence which was recently featured in Bethesda Magazine, only a 16SF glassy bay was added. Menassa Architecture found ways to re-purpose existing spaces as efficiently as possible to improve functionality.
During design, multiple layouts were considered but a creative solution was found; move the kitchen into the existing one-car garage and reimagine both spaces. The former kitchen was transformed into a beautiful mudroom with closets and a separate butler’s pantry. The former garage became a galley-type kitchen with windows on three sides. Counter space and views to the exterior were maximized and a dining area was created in the new window bay in the opening of the former garage door.
